布币是中国古代货币，因形状似铲，又称铲布，是中国春秋战国时期流通于中原诸国的铲状铜币。铲状工具曾是民间交易的媒介，故最早出现的铸币铸成铲状。

Cloth coin is an ancient Chinese coin. It is also called shovel cloth because of its shape. It is a shovel shaped copper coin circulated in the Central Plains during the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period. Spade tools used to be the medium of folk trade, so the earliest coinage appeared as spade.

布本为麻布之意，麻布也是交易媒介之一。当铜币出现后，人们因受长期习惯的影响，仍称铜钱为布。但前人也有的认为“布”即钱镈之“镈”的同音字。

Linen means linen, which is also one of the trading media. When copper coins appeared, people still called copper coins cloth because of the influence of long-term habits. However, some predecessors thought that "bu" was the homonym of Qian Kai's "he".

最初的布币，保留着其作为工具的模样，留有装柄的的銎，原始而厚重，故称为空首布；后来逐渐减轻，变薄，变小，币身完全成为片状，称为平首布。平首布上面通常铸有地名或纪重的文字。后来王莽的新朝亦曾造布币。

The original coins, which retain the shape of tool and the handle of the cloth, are primitive and thick, so they are called the cloth with empty head; later, they gradually lighten, thin and small, and the body of the coins completely becomes a sheet, which is called the cloth with flat head. The flat head cloth is usually engraved with place names or important characters. Later, Wang Mang's new dynasty also made coins.

此布币平首微弧，布首两边直内收；耸肩，两肩轻微向上耸翅，布身两侧微微内收，呈束腰状；方足，方档，有一足因磨损导致圆足，布币正面文笔划变化多样，背面有多条竖纹，边周均置有廓线，是用来保护交换时的安全性以及降低残损率。

This coin has a flat head and a slight arc, the two sides of the cloth head are straight inward; the shoulders are shrugged, the two shoulders are slightly upward and the wings are slightly upward, the two sides of the cloth body are slightly inward, in the shape of waistband; the square foot, the square file, one foot is round due to wear, the strokes of the obverse text of the coin are varied, the back has multiple vertical lines, and the sides are equipped with profiles, which is used to protect the safety of exchange and reduce the damage rate.

布币平时很少能见到，特别是最早的布币估计已经是稀缺之物，年代太久远了，而且又是诞生在战乱时期，能保存下来的也是幸运儿了。

Cloth coins are rarely seen in normal times, especially the earliest cloth coins are estimated to have been scarce. They are too old, and they were born in the period of war and chaos. They are lucky to survive.

可以说，在先秦古币当中，战国方足币拥有极高的地位，被当时的百姓和统治者所重视，战国方足币前期的出土量比较少，中期传世量少，到了后期也有几个稀世珍品。因而，无论哪个时期的战国方足币，都有值得收藏的存在。

It can be said that among the ancient coins of the pre Qin period, the Warring States period had a very high status, which was valued by the people and rulers at that time. In the early stage of the Warring States period, the amount of unearthed coins was relatively small, the amount of handed down coins in the middle stage was small, and there were several rare treasures in the later stage. Therefore, no matter what period of the Warring States period, there are enough coins worth collecting.
